About us

The HUN-REN-ELTE-MTM Integrative Ecology Research Group (launched in 2022) is a successor of MTA-ELTE-MTM Ecology Research Group (2012-2022), which stemmed from MTA-MTM Animal Ecology Research Group (1993-2012). With the new name, we also took a new concept, which reaches over and beyond ecology. Our “one sentence” goal is to study the biological responses to environmental change, from adaptive phenotypic plasticity through local adaptations to speciation. Our group consists of experts from various fields, like behavioural ecology, taxonomy, biogeography or evolutionary biology. We aim to combine our theoretical and practical approaches in various projects. We have our backgrounds in fundamental science, and still actively working on topics as ant taxonomy, animal personality research, speleobiology or sexual signalling. However, we are actively seeking to have an applied dimension in our projects, revolving around nature conservation, and targeting specific areas like invasion biology, including invasive pathogens, climate change, effects of land use, or factors affecting the success of captive breeding & reintroduction.
